Last Friday, March 10th, as part of the celebration of its 15th anniversary, the consortium of Metropolitan Libraries (COBIMET) held a very successful conference Effects of the Digital Revolution on economics and education. About 120 face-to-face participants in the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico and 208 connected through the internet accepted the call to the event, with the aim of reflecting on the need to assume as a country the challenges that new technologies represent in order to compete in the digital era.

The former Executive Secretary of Digital strategy of Chile, Alfredo Barriga, together with the Economist and President of technical studies, INC. Joaqí Villamil, the CIO of the Office of Government Ethics Norberto Cruz, professor at the Inter-American University Dinah Monroe and QBS consultant and researcher Héctor López shared diverse perspectives on the effects of the digital age on economics and education.

The meeting served to demonstrate the role of the various sectors of the country in driving Puerto Rico to its location among innovation countries at the global level. In this transformation the importance of the people above that of the teams is emphasized, taking into account that the value added by the talent is superior to that of the machines and the software. The debate has been fruitful and leaves us with immediate action commitments. It is urgent that we take a leading role and we unite around objectives that are useful for the whole country, as well as to take advantage of and promote the progress that we have achieved and can be disseminated worldwide, such as COBIMET. We must work collaboratively to achieve a responsible agenda for human development, emerging from the individual and collective initiatives of all economic sectors of the country, mainly in the education and social sector.

We hope that from this meeting emanate rays of light that extend throughout the country, to continue and to increase the bonds of collaboration in the subject of the digital age. It is our commitment to identify its effects and the opportunities it offers us to achieve that we have a more just and inclusive society, but above all so that we can achieve our realization as people through our efforts and be happy.
