The Metropolitan Libraries Consortium (COBIMET) and e-Technologies Solutions Corp. (e-Tech) signed an agreement to make the former the exclusive representative of the Koha Solutions Puerto Rico.
Koha is an integrated library management system that enables you to automate a wide range of processes inherent in a library: acquisitions, cataloging, search for electronic and printed resources, user account management, loans, reports and statistics. It is the first open source system, based on the web, useful for all kinds of academic, school or public library.
Through this agreement, COBIMET will provide local professional support for Koha and value-added services due to its 17 years of experience and implementation of library software: consulting, server installation and configuration, parameterization and customization, training, maintenance and support, cloud hosting. As an open source system, there is no licensing cost.
Carlos Crespo Santiago, Executive Director of COBIMET, said: "This partnership is a great opportunity to improve and innovate in the library management sector in Puerto Rico. Universities, schools and companies that want to integrate Koha can be sure that they will be the main beneficiaries of this strategic alliance."
Javier Jiménez, Regional Sales Manager for the Caribbean at e-Tech, reiterated the importance of this alliance. "COBIMET's evident passion for providing equitable access to information means we can work together to provide support to new Koha users in Puerto Rico. We are very excited to welcome COBIMET as our exclusive Puerto Rican ally," Jiménez said.
