COBIMET welcomed the successful conclusion of the first group of the 21ST Century Library Digital literacy program.
The goal of the project was to train librarians in digital competence in order to reduce the digital divide and improve the skills of the workforce in the libraries of the north-central region of the Puerto Rico Department of Education ( DEPR). It arises from the priorities of the Puerto Rico Five Year LSTA FUNDING Plan 2018-2022 of DEPR related to developing continuing education and professional development opportunities to ensure that a trained, informed and prepared librarian will provide the services that library users need.
Under this program, 25 workshops were offered in five areas of digital competence: information, communication, content, security and technical troubleshooting. The Profa. María M. Cruz-Guilloty, specialist in educational technology, and Prof. Carlos Crespo Santiago, professional librarian, were the resources of the program that began on October 31, 2018 and culminated on March 21, 2019.
This project was subsidized with funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Entity that manages the Library Services and Technolocy Act (LSTA FUNDING) and impacted a total of 98 DEPR Library teachers.
