With the aim of promoting and inserting Puerto Rico in the discussion of issues related to library services at an international level, the Consortium of Metropolitan Libraries of Puerto Rico (COBIMET) entered the International Library Consortium Coalition (ICOLC).

"Through this initiative we reaffirm our commitment to support our members to improve the virtual library and information skills in the digital age. In addition, we promote the creation of spaces for the exchange of experiences with other consortiums of libraries worldwide., "said María Morales de Garín, executive director of COBIMET. ICOLC is a self-organized group that gathers approximately 200 consortiums of libraries from North and South America, Europe, Australia, Asia and Africa.

Member consortiums serve all types and sizes of libraries. Since 1996, year of its formation, they meet twice a year to discuss matters of common interest and keep the participating consortiums informed of the new electronic information resources, the pricing practices of vendors and suppliers of electronic information, as well as other matters of importance for directors, boards and library staff.
