COBIMET celebrates the approval of a new project by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS)!
We are pleased to announce that the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) has awarded a grant of $98,976 to the Metropolitan Libraries Consortium (COBIMET) to implement the “AI Literacy for All Librarians” project, as part of the Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian (LB21) program.
This two-year initiative aims to strengthen the knowledge and skills of information professionals so they can understand, evaluate, and apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) in library services in a critical, ethical, and responsible manner.
Who is eligible to participate?
The project will offer free training opportunities to approximately 250 librarians from some 53 libraries in Puerto Rico, including academic, school, public, and specialized libraries.
How will the goal be achieved?
Through virtual workshops, microlearning modules, and hands-on activities, participants will progress through four levels of competencies:
Based on the article by Leo S., it describes the progression from recognizing basic concepts and problems, through explaining and evaluating systems, to integrating AI into real-world situations, and finally developing strategies, policies, and governance.
The initiative will cover everything from the fundamentals of AI and its ethical implications to its practical application in library services, information literacy, research support, and the development of institutional strategies for the responsible adoption of these technologies.
